Caregiver Strain |
According to Duxbury and Higgins, the burdens associated with caring for an elderly relative can result in a type of stress called caregiver strain. They suggest that caregiver strain can take several forms, including: emotional burdens; multiple role strain; financial strain; and physical exhaustion. Approximately one-quarter (24 percent) of professional employees experience high levels of caregiver strain. Which regions are more likely to report high levels of caregiver strain? Professional employees in Quebec and Ontario are most likely to report high caregiver strain (28 percent and 25 percent respectively). Professional employees in the Prairies are least to do so (18 percent). |
